Punjab BJP has termed the announcement of ‘Awaaz-e-Punjab’ as an example of political opportunism which is being resorted to by political personalities who are not in the mainstream of politics.
Reacting to the development wherein the Sidhu couple, former Indian hockey captain Pargat Singh and the Bains brothers of Ludhiana have come together to form a political platform, the state BJP maintained that the move will not generate any traction as the people of the state will not give any weight to such overnight outfits.
“It is quite apparent that this outfit has been floated to test the waters prior to elections. It is a clear case of political opportunism and an effort to make the most of the available resources,” said Tarun Chugh, national secretary of the party. He added that the move is unlikely to have any deep political impact in the 2017 assembly elections. The SAD-BJP coalition will only get more strong due to such factionalism among political personalities of the state who oppose it, Chugh said.
The BJP core committee meeting held in Jalandhar this evening also discussed the new development and it is learnt that the party leaders have expressed their disappointment with Navjot Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur for being a part of any political platform while being a party members.
