Pamma, however, had voluntarily come up before the high court in 2022, seeking bail, with prayers to surrender before the trial court and further relief for interim bail till the decision of the bail petition. The high court in October 2022, while directing the accused to join the proceedings before the trial court, had ordered that till then, the arrest of the petitioner-accused was stayed.

In the high court, arguing for regular bail confirmation, the petitioner’s counsel contended that he was present before the court concerned at Sri Anandpur Sahib and had surrendered that day itself. The trial court was asked to release the petitioner on interim bail on that day itself, subject to compliance with the conditions, and the interim bail order is continuing till date.

Justice Chitkara, on perusing the facts of the FIR registered against accused, held that “a thorough investigation has been conducted, pointing towards the petitioner’s role in firing at the police party. Any further discussions would certainly prejudice the petitioner’s case”.
