The sexual harassment cell at the Panjab University (PU) appears to have brought no relief to the students as hardly anyone knows about it. From the time of its inception, only three complaints have been lodged. Acknowledging the unpopularity of the cell, authorities at PU have decided to revamp the cell.

Dean Students Welfare (Women),Prof Nistha Jaswal, who also heads the cell, agrees that the cell lacks popularity.

She said: “There are many students who do not want to come out in the open with their complaint. So,we plan to set up a complaint drop-box in all the departments so that students can access it easily. Student representatives will be deputed to bring these complaints to us for further action.”

The officials also plan to have a link for the cell on the PU website. “This will make things much easier for students as they will be able to make their complaints online,” said Prof Jaswal.
