A professor of University Business School (UBS),Panjab University,took over as an Honorary Director of Academic Staff College on Monday. Dr Karamjeet Singh is the 14th director of the college. The Academic Staff College was established in October 1987,and is one of the 66 such colleges set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to provide in-service training to college and university lecturers.
The college conducts four orientation courses each year for newly appointed teachers having less than six years of teaching experience and 11 refresher courses in different subjects/areas for teachers having more than two years of teaching experience.
All teachers have to attend orientation and refresher courses for promotion under Career Advancement Scheme as per UGC requirements.
Dr Singh said that as per UGC guidelines,the purpose of this college is to sensitise participants to social,political and economic aspects of time with reference to teaching profession,to impart and improve necessary professional skills in teaching,research,and management.
