PU marks Gandhi,Shastri Jayanti

Gandhi Jayanti and Shastri Jayanti was celebrated in PU on Wednesday with a blood donation camp organised by Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies in collaboration with the Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource Centre,Chandigarh. Dr Devinder Singh,PUTA president was the first one to donate the blood. Amongst PU teachers Dr Ashok Kumar (Hindi),Dr V K Singh (Chinese and Tibetan Studies),Dr Manish Sharma and Dr Nitin Sharma (Gandhian and Peace Studies) along with many research scholars from Iran also donated blood.

Advisor and secretary to the PU V-C,R L Kapoor,IAS (Retd.),who inaugurated the camp,highlighted the significance of blood donation and said it was a great service to humanity. Amongst other visitors were former Chief Secretary Punjab,Rajan Kashyap,93-year-old veteran freedom fighter,Sardar Subhender Singh Goindi and former director of Gandhi Smarak Bhawan,Dr S S Goindi. The participants also observed the International Day of Ahimsa by observing silence for two minutes. Also,a cleanliness drive was organised on the campus.

National seminar on Dalit Studies ends at PU

According to academicians attending the two-day national seminar on ‘Dalit Studies in 21st Century: Looking Ahead’,there is a need to change the perspective of studies done on Dalits from development to transformation-oriented. The seminar,organised by the ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre,concluded at the complex in Panjab University (PU) on Wednesday. Professor Kancha Ilaiah from Osmania University,Hyderabad highlighted the importance of ideology-based study over empirical inquiry.
