For the first time, the faculty of law of Panjab University (PU) will hold an independent convocation on April 28. Justice G S Singhvi of the Supreme Court will be the chief guest on the occasion.

All the PU affiliated colleges running laws courses will participate in the event. The reason stated for organising a separate convocation is that law courses have a large number of students, and in the main convocation of the university only toppers are permitted to attend, while in this convocation, students who have obtained 75 per cent marks or above will be invited to participate.

G K Chatrath,Dean Law faculty, said,“We have decided to hold a separate convocation,so that all the students who have faired well are honoured on stage.

“It is a good move on the part of the authorities,as many students with good percentage are not able to get their degrees on the convocation day. This will encourage the deserving students,as their hard work will be recognised and can motivate them to do well in life,” said Amarjeet Singh,a student.

Rayat Bahar College of Law along with colleges located at Ludhiana,Hoshiarpur, and Muktsar will also participate.
