PU Campus paddlers claim title

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University Campus,Chandigarh bagged the Panjab University Inter-College table-tennis (Men) championship after beating DAV College,Chandigarh by 3-1 in the final played at the PU Gymnasium hall in Chandigarh on Friday. Mayank Kapoor gave an early lead to PU Campus by beating Tushar 7-11,11-8,12-10 in the opening match. Anirudh then made it 2-0 as he overcame Aditya by 11-9,9-11,7-11,11-9,12-10. DAV College reduced the margin through Kashish who defeated M Rawat 11-7,9-11,7-11,11-6,11-5. Mayank wrapped up the match as he beat Aditya 12-10,13-11. In a match to decide third and fourth places,SGGS College,Chandigarh beat SSGPURC,Hoshiarpur by 3-1.

DAV gymnasts triumph

DAV College,Sector-10,Chandigarh grabbed the Panjab University Inter College gymnastics (Women) championship with 59.20 points. PG Govt. College for Girls,Sec. 11,Chandigarh, PG Govt. College for Girls,Sec. 42,Chandigarh and P.U. Campus,Chandigarh secured second,third and fourth positions with 49.30,31.90 and 17 points respectively.

GHG Kh. College victorious

Meanwhile,in the hockey league matches for men A Division GHG Kh. College,Gurusar Sadhar defeated G.N. College,Narangwal by 7-3 and DAV College,Chandigarh outclassed SCD Govt. College,Ludhiana by 6-2. GHG Khalsa College,Gurusar Sadhar and DAV College,Sector 10 Chandigarh recorded victories in contrasting styles in the Panjab University Inter College Hockey (Men) A-Division Tournament at Sector 42 Hockey Stadium in Chandigarh. GHG Kh. College,Gurusar Sadhar (Ludhiana) outplayed SCD Government College,Ludhiana by 5-0 in a one-sided match. Damanjit contributed goals by scoring in 26th and 54th minutes. Gurvir Singh also scored a brace by finding the object in 42nd and 48th minutes. Pawandeep sounded the board in 45th minute to swell the winners’ tally. However, DAV College,Chandigarh just managed to prevail over GN College,Narangwal with a hard-fought 4-3 verdict.

Rishabh,Golmei surge ahead

CHANDIGARH: Displaying some sharp tennis,CLTA trainees Rishab Sharda and Calvin Golmei defeated their respective opponents to enter the final qualifying round during CLTA-AITA Super Series tennis tournament being held in Chandigarh. Rishab beat Sarthak Jain while Calvin defeated Sohrab Singh. Rishab will be facing Sanket Tomar while eighth seed Calvin will lock horns with the CHART trainee Ramanjot in the final qualifying round.

In the U-12 boys section,12th seed Varun Mudipalli faced some resistance from Abhay Mohan before Varun beat Mudipalli by 9-7 to move in the finalqualifying round. He will take on fifth seed Aakash Ahlawat in the next match. Meanwhile in the girls’ final round matches,Smriti Singh,Nikita Kharangra,Priyanka Khanna,Yana Dhamija,Rahat Mangat,Sristi Sonal,Luvya Singh Lamba and Renee Sharma won their respective matches to reach the Main Draw stage.

Jalandhar lifts overall trophy

CHANDIGARH: Jalandhar lifted the overall trophy in the Punjab State Women Games that concluded at Multipurpose Sports Stadium,in Bhatinda on Saturday. In 100m race,Manveer Kaur of Patiala proved herself the fastest runner of the state as she ran100m clocking 12.21 Sec,Kirandeep of Jalandhar won silver medal (12.47 Sec) and Deepti Rani also from Jalandhar got Bronze medal (12.68 Sec). In 3000m race,Harpreet kaur of Patiala won gold by completing the race in 10:30.03mnts,Harpreet Kaur of Hoshiarpur bagged silver (10:40.67mnts) where as Amandeep Kaur also from Hoshiarpur got bronze (10:46.65mnts). In the 4x100m relay race,Jalandhar clinched gold clocking 50.80sec,host Bathinda won bronze (51.47sec) and Sangrur got bronze (54.12sec).

Bharti adjudged best gymnast

CHANDIGARH: Bharti of G.G.S.C. Public School-26 was the star performer among Under-14 girl competitors in the Chandigarh Inter-School artistic gymnastics tournament at the Sector 7 Gymnasium Hall in Chandigarh. Besides sweeping top positions in table vault,uneven bars,balancing beam and floor exercise Bharti was adjudged the best all-around gymnast with 33 points.

Punjab Colts grab three points against Kerala

In reply to Punjab’s first innings total of 450 runs,Kerala scored 227 runs,losing eight wickets in a match played during the ongoing All India Invitational U-19 tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala. The match ended in a draw. For Kerala,Salman Nizar (76 no) and Suraj K Sivadas (61) were the main scorers.The duo was involved in a seventh-wicket partnership of 125 runs. For Punjab,Siddharth Sharma (2 for 29),Sunny (2 for 25) and Karan Kaila (2 for 48) were the main wicket takers. Punjab got a three while Kerala bagged one point.
