District Congress Committee (Urban) president Arun Walia and state secretary of the Congress Committee Varinder Sharma today filed two complaints with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the Chief Electoral Officer,Punjab,to take appropriate action against Punjab Technical University (PTU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Rajneesh Arora and BJP MP from Amritsar Navjot Sidhu for violation of the election code of conduct.

Sharma said the PTU had advertised 30 new posts in various newspapers today. “When the election code of conduct is in force, neither any advertisements for new posts can be published nor any job-related interviews can be conducted,” Walia said.

He said they have urged the CEC to take action according to the law,and the expenditure on the advertisement should be charged from the V-C’s personal account. They also stated in the complaint that PTU V-C had RSS background and he should be removed from this post till the elections were over.

They have also demanded action against BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu for using the photo of Golden Temple in an advertisement published today about development works undertaken by the SAD-BJP government in Punjab and a comparison with the works of the Congress government in the past 60 years.

They said photo of a religious place could not be used for taking any political mileage.

When contacted,PTU V-C Dr Rajneesh Arora said the advertisement was not given by the PTU authorities but by the PTU Distance Education Associate from Ludhiana and “the moment it came to our notice,we told them to not to give such ads without the permission of the CEC”.

He added that PTU Distance Education Associate had given the ad by mistake and would carry a corrigendum in tomorrow’s newspapers.
