Coming to the rescue of a brother and sister duo whose marriages were called off on a false complaint alleging that they are minors, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday directed the Sirsa SP to provide security to the siblings so that they can get married.
Justice Daya Chaudhary also issued showcause notices to Protection-cum-Child Marriage officer of Sirsa,Sadhna Mittal, asking her to explain why contempt proceedings should be not initiated against her for not appearing before the court,as she was directed on the last date of hearing.
The directions were passed on a petition filed by Madan and his sister Hariya. The two had moved the court alleging that their weddings, which were to take place on March 12 and 13,was called off after Sadhna Mittal came to their residence on March 12 with officers from the Haryana Police and stopped the weddings. A false complaint lodged by Madans neighbour Rameshwar, had alleged that the siblings are minors. thus, solemnising their marriages was against the Hindu Marriage Act. The duo had alleged that Rameshwar,in order to settle a personal score, had registered a false complaint and the officer, without verifying facts, had caused an embarassment to their family.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for April 26.
