Prof Brar to speak on ‘de-theorising globalisation’ on September 5

On the occasion of Teachers Day,noted academician and international relations expert Professor Bhupinder Brar will deliver the Colloquium address at Panjab University.

Former Dean University Instructions,Professor Brar will address PU students and faculty members on the issue of “De-theorising Globalisation” on September 5. Brar has earlier served PU in different teaching and administrative capacities for about 35 years.

Prof Brar’s academic interests have straddled the fields of political theory and international relations. In recent years,he has used this to critique prevailing theories and discourses of globalisation,with special reference to India. His last publication is the co-edited volume ‘Facing Globality: Politics of Resistance,Relocation and Reinvention’ (Oxford,2012).

Also,Professor Brar is the author of various other books including “Globalisation and Politics of Identity in India” in 2008,“Explaining Communist Crisis” in 1994 and “Soviet Collapse: Implications for India” in 1993. He is currently working on “Other Ideas of Freedom”.

Apart from teaching at PU as re-employed Professor of Political Science,Professor Brar is also editor of ‘Man and Development’ since 2010. A multi-faceted personality,he has also authored a book of poetry,“Sookhi Hawa Ki Aawaz”,published this year.

Professor Brar has also worked as Honorary Director,ICSSR North-Western Regional Centre from 2008-12,Dean Research,Panjab University from 2009-10,Chief Editor,Panjab University Research Journal of Social Sciences from 2006-08,Coordinator UGC Special Assistance Programme from 2004-09 and Honorary Director,Centre for Defence and National Security Studies in 2004-05.

Brar has also been a member of editorial boards of reputed publications like Contemporary Political Theory,Palgrave Press in UK,Peace and Democracy in South Asia,Stockholm University and Punjab Journal of Politics,Guru Nanak Dev University,India.
