Private school adopts point system

While most private schools have decided to follow draw of lots for admission to entry class for new academic session,Vivek High School Sector 38,has taken up Delhi’s 100-point system for the process.

While most private schools have decided to follow draw of lots for admission to entry class for new academic session,Vivek High School Sector 38,has taken up Delhi’s 100-point system for the process. The school initiated the process,on Wednesday,becoming the first school in the city to have adopted the system this year. The list of selected candidates will be displayed on January 14.

Under the point system,points are allotted to siblings,wards of alumni,candidates who live in schools neighbourhood,special children,girl child,parent’s education qualification and school specific parameters. (See box)

Director of the School,H S Mamik said,“We are in the process of allotting points to the applicants. On the basis of merit,the top 75 candidates will be selected. In view of the shortage of seats and the apprehensions of the parents regarding the transparency of selection process,we decided to follow the point system-which appears to be meeting everyone’s requirements.”

Of the total 100 seats in pre-nursery class,25 seats are reserved under RTE.

Mamik,who is also the president of Independent Schools Association (ISA),had mooted the 100-point system for admissions in December. However,a number of prominent schools in the city,continued to stick to their own criteria for admissions.

The other two schools resuming their admissions on Wednesday including Mount Carmel School Sector 47 and Manav Mangal School Sector 21 are admitting candidates on first-come-first-serve basis.

Meanwhile,The four convent schools including Sacred Heart School Sector 26,St John School Sector 26,Carmel Convent School Sector 9 and St Anne’s School Sector 32 have already conducted the draw of lots this week after reserving certain seats for siblings,wards of school staff and alumni.

Other prominent schools in the city including Strawberry Fields School Sector 26,Bhawan Vidyalaya Sector 33 and Gurukul Global School Manimajra will follow the same processes as followed by the convent schools. These three schools are yet to finalise the schedules.
