Six months after suspending three officers on grounds of negligence leading to the death of five-year-old Khushpreet, the Chandigarh Police has reinstated them, citing the guidelines in place for such cases.Khuspreet had been kidnapped and found dead.
The police suspended Inspector Uday Pal Singh, then Station House Officer at Sector 34 police station; Inspector Narinder Patial and sub-inspector Balraj Singh, both with Burail police post. This followed a probe by then subdivisional magistrate M L Sharma,a Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officer, who held the three guilty of negligence and dereliction of duty. Sharma had submitted a 109-page inquiry report to Chandigarh Home Secretary Ram Niwas, after which Inspector General of Police PK Srivastava issued the suspension orders. Asked about the reinstatement,UT Senior Superintendent of Police Naunihal Singh said,We merely followed the Central Vigilance Commissions guidelines, which say that we can not keep an officer under suspension for more than six months, owing to a pending departmental probe. The officers are reinstated, but will not be deputed on any public dealing posts till the departmental probe against them gets completed.
