A Police officers wife was among two women killed,while a man was injured in separate road accidents in Mohali and Kurali,police said here today. Jyoti Bala,28,wife of Harish Kumar,who is posted as Station House Officer of Government Railway Police in Patiala and resident of Sector 39-D,Chandigarh,was knocked down by an unknown vehicle near Diplast Chowk in phase-II here,Investigating Officer Kanwar Jaswinder Pal Singh said.

The accident took place at around 11.30 am when Jyoti was returning home after dropping her father-in-law in Sector 78 here.

She was rushed to Chandigarh PGIMER,where she succumbed to her injuries. The police have booked an unknown vehicle driver for causing death by rash and negligent driving. In another accident,a sexagenarian woman Parveen Lata was killed while her son Puneet Gautam sustained injuries when a speeding truck ran over their Honda Activa scooter from behind on National Highway-21 near traffic lights at Kurali. The accident took place at around 1.30 pm when they were returning home at Ward 5,Kurali,Investigating Officer Hakam Singh said. Lata was declared dead on arrival while Gautam was admitted for treatment. The truck driver,Navjot Singh of Anandpur Sahib in Ropar,fled after leaving behind the vehicle and has been booked for rash and negligent driving.
