Police vehicle crashes into auto,driver killed

A police vehicle crashed into an auto early on Friday morning near Police Lines here,killing the auto driver and injuring two passengers in the auto.

A police vehicle crashed into an auto early on Friday morning near Police Lines here,killing the auto driver and injuring two passengers in the auto.

Around 9 am on Friday,a Tata Sumo,the official vehicle of Panchkula Sector 5 Station House Officer (SHO),lost control and crashed into an auto coming from the opposite direction,in front of the main gate of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police camp at Madanpura near Police Lines in Sector 26,Panchkula. The police vehicle was on its way to get petrol filled in it and there was a gunman inside,besides the driver,who suffered minor injuries. The SHO,to whom the car is assigned,was not present in the car.

The auto driver,Gurmeet Singh (32),a resident of Ramgarh,was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the Government Hospital,Sector 6,Panchkula. The two passengers in the auto,Manju (36) and her son Sandeep (15),both residents of Ramgarh,were seriously injured and were taken to the Government Hospital in Panchkula. They were later referred to PGIMER,Chandigarh. Both the victims suffered serious limb and head injuries and their condition was critical.

The driver of the police car also suffered injuries and was admitted to the Government Hospital in Panchkula.
