It has been 19 days since the 17-year-old state level boxer Megha died in a road accident after an SUV rammed into the bike on which Megha was riding pillion. Yet,neither has the offending vehicle been traced nor have any arrests been made till now by the Chandigarh Police.
When asked the reason for the delay in identification of the offending vehicle,Narinder Patial,station house officer of Industrial Area was clueless.
On June 17 at around 1.30 in the afternoon,Megha was riding pillion on a motorbike when a speeding SUV knocked the class XII student down.
Megha was riding on a newly bought motorbike with her teenaged cousin Gaurav Kumar.
Megha was to celebrate her 18th birthday at her aunt’s house in Sector 30 on June 22.
The accident took place on Monday on the dividing road of Sectors 29-30. The Hoshiarpur-based girl breathed her last in the wee hours of the next day on Tuesday.
Accused of negligence and causing delay in transporting the injured to a hospital,the Chandigarh Police had earlier issued a press release denying the accusations that had been leveled by family members.
In a press release,the Chandigarh Police claimed that the injured and deceased were taken to the hospital “without delay” by interceptor (a traffic gypsy).
