A resident of Pathankot,Punjab alleged that an unidentified person stole Rs 1.5 lakh from his car while his driver was changing a punctured tyre. Police on Tuesday registered a case of cheating and theft after about a month from the date of incident,as it was in the process of verifying the complaint.

On October 4,Vidhya Sagar was travelling in his car when one of the rear tyres punctured. While he was sitting inside the car,the driver was changing the tyre. An unidentified youth approached Sagar and told him that the jack was not properly placed. Upon this,Sagar stepped out of the car to check the placement of the jack. Meanwhile, the youth asked Sagar for directions. Sagar told the youth that since he did not belong to the city,he was not much aware of locations. Thereafter, the youth left and Sagar started watching the punctured tyre being changed.

A little later,Sagar realised that his bag was missing. Police, however, did not register an FIR immediately as they verified the complaint. “Suspicion arose as it was unlikely that the bag was stolen in the presence of both the driver and the owner of the car,” an officer said.
