The Chandigarh Police might consider buying some of the high-tech gadgets shown by the National Security Guard (NSG) commandos during the ongoing exercise-cum- training programme. The programme, being held at various locations in the city,is focused on training the Chandigarh Police to handle a terror attack.

One of the gadgets ‘Throw ball’ has an inbuilt camera. A commando can throw the ball into a room where he suspects the presence of a terrorist. The ball, once stationary, would start clicking photographs and notify commandoes of the presence of any suspicious object or person.

Another gadget looks like a small toy shaped like a chopper with a four-blade propeller and armed with a spy camera. It is a remote controlled instrument which can be used for identifying suspicious activities at a higher level.

The NSG commandos also showed their counterparts in the Chandigarh Police a remote-controlled tiny robot capable of climbing buildings and defusing bombs.

The exercise-cum-training programme has been taking place at Taj hotel,Hyatt hotel,Elante Mall and the Infosys building. “The reason these places have been chosen is because they have a higher probability of suffering a terror attack. Generally, terrorists choose such places as an attack on them weakens the economy of the city,” said a senior police officer.

According to sources in the police department, the NSG had approached the Chandigarh Police for training its personnel as part of their annual programme.
