Police firing case: Badal questioned, he says SIT is politically motivated

THE PUNJAB police SIT probing incidents of police firing on protesters in Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan following the 2015 desecration recorded the statement of SAD patron and then CM Parkash Singh Badal on Friday.

Later, Badal told mediapersons that the SIT was “politically motivated to defame him and Sukhbir Badal” and CM Amarinder Singh will get the SIT report written by the Advocate General where they (Badals) will be turned into “culprits from witnesses.”

Drama ensued when SIT member IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh reached Badal’s residence at 2.30 pm and Badal insisted that SIT chairman Prabodh Kumar also come. Badal asked IG Singh to arrange a talk with Kumar on phone. Singh dialled the number and Badal told Kumar on phone, “I want that you should also come… it would be better… If it is not convenient for you, I can come to you).”

After the call, Badal told media that Kumar had told him he would reach in 10 minutes. Before he went back inside, he told the media, “Though I know this SIT is politically motivated to defame me and Sukhbir Badal, but still as a law-abiding man, we are appearing before them.”

Later, ADGP Kumar turned up at the residence of Badal and went inside. The questioning continued for nearly 45 minutes.

IG Singh said, “Questioning has been done with honourable Badal Sahib ji in connection with the case. Four members (of the SIT) were present during the questioning which was held in very cordial atmosphere… All the four members asked their respective questions.”
