The UT Police on Tuesday raided the premises of Seema Khutten, who has been named as one of the accused along with the late Congress councillor Arshad Khan,in a cheating case following a complaint by a British national.

A police team raided various buildings in sectors 4,8,20 and 38 West where Seema had rented accommodation in the past. The police also raided her house in Sector 24. She is currently on the run.

According to UT Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Sushil,“We raided various places where Seema had been residing in the past.

As per the court orders,we have given four-day notice to her to join the investigations. The notice was handed over to Seema’s mother at her house in Sector 24.”

The complainant,Patricia Craig, had arrived in India last year to write a book about Chandigarh’s architecture and future development. She alleged that she had paid over Rs 91 lakh to the accused and signed an MoU for a joint venture project. She was also shown a plot near IT park,Panchkula.

Khan had died under mysterious circumstances a few months ago after which the complainant found that the plot she was shown was fake. She was returned Rs 20 lakh, but the remaining money was not returned after which she approached the UT Police. The case was handed over to the Economic Offences Wing last month, which registered a case of cheating against the accused after taking legal opinion.
