The Chandigarh Police observed Police Commemoration Day by paying homage to valiant officers and men of police forces and para-millitary forces in the country,who laid down their lives. The Commemoration Parade was held in the Home Guards Ground near Sector 17 police station,in the memory of the martyrs. The names of 638 Police Officers and men,who made the supreme sacrifice in the cause of duty,during the year,were read out at the Commemoration Parade by PK Srivastava,Inspector General of Police (IGP),Chandigarh. He lauded the sacrifice of the martyrs,who lost their lives while protecting the security and the integrity of the country. The Day has been observed since 1959,when a small contingent of Indian Police was attacked by the Chinese troops; as a result 10 of them were killed.
