The Chandigarh Police has arrested three persons including the domestic help Poonam alias Sonia who robbed a 66-year-old woman Savita Mehra at her residence. The police have arrested the domestic help along with her two accomplices,Rajesh and MAlkhan Singh alias Vicky Chauhan,all residents of Dadumajra in Chandigarh.
Rajesh,21-year-old,is the husband of Poonam while Malkhan (23) is brother-in-law of Rajesh. The trio had tied the 66-year-old Mehra at her residence in Sector 61on the morning of October 25. While Malkhan is a driver,Rajesh works as a sweeper at KFC-35 in Chandigarh.
Talking to mediapersons,Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vijay Kumar said Poonam along with the two accused had been on the look out of a woman,old or young,who is alone at home so that they can rob her. Rajiv Mehra and his wife Jyoti used to leave home in the morning for their respective jobs and Rajivs children would go to school. Their maid servant had gone to her native place for a few days and Mehras were searching for a domestic when they came across Poonam,who introduced herself as Sonia They hired her on October 21, said DSP Vijay Kumar.
On October 25,Poonam who was directed to come early and finish her work by 9 am in the presence of Rajiv and other family members deliberately came late. She came late on the morning of October 25 and after completing the work telephoned the two accomplices who were waiting for her signal. The three then tied the old lady with clothes lying in the house and robbed Rs 10,000 and jewellery of worth Rs 2.5 lakh, the DSP added.
According to the police,the three threatened the old lady with a toy pistol. The police are yet to recover it.
