NEARLY A month after a 38-year-old man who was working with a telecom company was murdered by unknown persons, the police have arrested three accused in the case and claimed the motive behind the murder was robbery.
According to the police, those three arrested have been identified as Manish, Aakash alias Golu and Aamir. All the trio have a criminal background with seven cases registered against them at Manimajra police station.
Vinit Trehan, who worked in a senior position with a telecom company, was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon by unknown men at Manimajra on July 30. The victim had suffered serious head injuries and was taken to PGI where he was declared dead on arrival.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, the police said they arrested the accused on Sunday. “The weapon and motorcycle used in the crime and blood-stained clothes of all accused have been recovered. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they murdered the victim for the motive of robbery. The accused have been remanded in police custody till Saturday,” the police said.
The police said a case was registered on the statement of Vicky Anand, a resident of Baltana, Zirakpur. The complainant, a security guard in Uppal Marbal Society, Manimajra, had seen the three accused beat up the victim and then flee away on their motorcycle. A special team was constituted to trace the accused.
According to the police, those who have been arrested are residents of Mamimajra and Panchkula. Aakash, 20, alias Golu is a resident of Rajiv Colony, Sector 17, Panchkula, while Manish, 27, is a resident of New Indira Colony Manimajra. The third accused, Aamir, too is a resident of Manimajra.
