The juvenile caught for the murder of the minor girl from Colony Number 4, whose body was found near a nullah in the forest area on Saturday, first strangled her and then sexually violated the body, the police said on Tuesday.
The doctors who conducted the autopsy said all injuries on the girl’s body, except those caused by strangulation, were post-mortem in nature. These included nine bite marks and injuries on the private parts, the police said.
Police sources said the juvenile, who was sent to an observation home on Monday night, showed no remorse during questioning although he is a distant relative of the girl. “I did what I had to do,” he told the police.
“The accused said that in order to take revenge on the girls’ parents, he deliberately inflicted injuries on her body,” said a police officer.
The juvenile had been angry ever since the girl’s father had slapped him on the day of Holi. This happened when he tried to intervene in a fight between his uncle and the girl’s father.
Said Inspector General of Police R P Upadhyay, “The accused nursed a grudge against the parents. We have concluded the investigation and all loose ends of the crime have been tied. It is a ghastly crime.”
The police have established the sequence of the events. “The accused picked up the girl on Friday night, took her to the house of a relative who was away, strangled her with a piece of cloth, and hid the body beneath a bed after wrapping it in a quilt. Around 3 the same night, after the police had ended its search for the girl, he took the body to the forest area,” said a source.
There, he removed the clothes, assaulted the body and left it at the place where it was later found, said the source. The time gap between the death of the girl and the sexual assault and injuries was three hours, the source added.
A police officer said that the juvenile had studied the movement of all three sisters in the family before zeroing in on the youngest, who was three years and nine months old, as an easy target.
The juvenile was detained on Saturday evening after his uncle Ram Janam told the police about the Holi incident during questioning and also said that the juvenile bore a grudge against the girl’s father.
“After the girl went missing, he was one of the main persons who instigated the rioters to put police under pressure. He was present during the police search operation and watched all activities,” said an officer.
While the family of the accused told Newsline that he was 14, police officials said that he was actually 17, according to his records in Azamgarh, his hometown in UP.
However, the police will be carrying out ossification tests to determine his age. They have also taken his teeth impression to match with the bite marks on the girl’s body.
