A state-level philatelic exhibition (PUNPEX 2016) organised by Punjab Postal Circle at DAV College Sector 10 wound up on Tuesday.
In the concluding ceremony, seven gold medals in different classes of philately, 21 silver medals, 46 bronze medals and 17 diploma certificates were given.
Students from various schools visited the exhibition and showed keen interest in collection of stamps. A huge number of people were witnessed at the counter set up by India Post, which was selling attractive items with stamp imprints.
A historic letter box, bearing the logo of Patiala, was installed at the main gate of Moti Mahal. The Department of Posts has been preserving this letter box since 2005.
“The exhibition was a great success. It generated awareness and huge interest in collection of stamps among the young generation,” said Manisha Bansal, Director, Postal Services (HQ).
A total of 300 frames were on display, The collection ranged from war letters, the Nazi plunder of valuable art and communication announcing Mahatma Gandhi’s death to Red Cross Society, the Rotary movement and India’s rich cultural heritage.
