The PGI Employees’ union (non-faculty) Thursday organised a car and scooter rally to protest the non-payment of Diwali bonuses to PGI employees. The rally began at 5:00 pm after duty hours from the PGI Transport Gate and concluded at Sector 25 Rally Ground, Chandigarh.

The rally witnessed the participation of approximately 50 employees. The employees of PGI have been receiving Diwali bonus for the last 40 years and are entitled to the adhoc bonus as per the Government of India order, dated September 29, 2025. All the conditions prescribed in the said order are duly fulfilled by PGI employees.

As per Beant, president of the union, despite this, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has arbitrarily withheld the release of the bonus to the employees of PGI and other autonomous bodies under the Central government. Beant, along with the team and representatives of other regular employees’ unions and associations, condemned this unjust decision.

They stated that if the bonus is not released at the earliest, the union will intensify its agitation and continue the protest at a higher level in the coming days. The members reiterated that the employees’ long-standing rights and morale cannot be ignored, especially during the festive season.
