Chandigarh:The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) curator Daljit Singh has been appointed as the chairman of a newly constituted BCCIs pitches and grounds committee. It maybe recalled that Daljit was removed from the BCCIs pitches and grounds committee as the chairman back in 2009 after the final match of the India-Sri Lanka ODI series at the Feroz Shah Kotla on December 27 was abandoned. After that,Daljit ,chairman of the BCCI pitch and grounds committee,and his panel,were sacked the same day by the BCCI,which held him responsible. Speaking to the media on his appointment,Daljit said,The board has revamped the committee and have added seven new curators as members,which means we will have more man power at our disposal to go to every venue and try and improve the conditions during matches. Daljit said the board is making all efforts to improve conditions at the domestic level also and the present committee has a clear mandate to look into the ways improving the standards and overhauling them.Besides,looking into the hosting international matches,we will also try and improve conditions for the Ranji matches and also for under-25,under-19 and under-16 tournaments. Such steps will improve and enhance the standard of the game at the domestic level, he added. Daljit said that PCA became the first association to host curators course and this will go a long way helping curators get technical exposure and there are plans to do the same from grounds men.
Mohit fashions Airtel triumph
Chandigarh:Led by Mohit’s 34-ball knock of 54 runs,Airtel beat PCAC in a match played during CII-Tata Motors Corporate Cricket Cup in Chandigarh. Batting first,PCAC posted a total of 173 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Dinesh (30), Sohal (26) and Navdeep (26) were the main scorers for PCAC. For Airtel,Amit Asija bagged three wickets. In reply,Airtel team chased down the target in 17.2 overs. Mohit hammered superb knock of 54 runs to help his team win the match. In another match,Metro Motors thrashed Mohali Industries Association (MIA) comprehensively by 49 runs in a lop- sided contest. Batting first,Metro Motors piled up a total of 173 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Sangeet scored impressive 65 runs to help his team reach such a fighting total. Lalit also played well during his knock of 46 runs. In reply,MIA could score only 124 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. From the winning team,Sunil Thakur bagged four wickets. Meanwhile,Kudos Chemie defeated GMCH 32 by a huge margin of 119 runs and Chandigarh Police recorded a 84-run win over Net Solutions.
