Patients suffer electric shocks: PGI orders probe

A day after two women suffered electric shocks at PGI’s gynaecological ward,PGI Director Professor K K Talwar marked an inquiry into the incident.

A day after two women suffered electric shocks at PGI’s gynaecological ward,PGI Director Professor K K Talwar marked an inquiry into the incident. According to PGI sources,Medical Superintendent Dr A K Gupta is in-charge of the inquiry and is expected to submit his report in two days.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident occurred due to a broken electric socket,which came into contact with a metal bed. Meanwhile,the Electrical Division of PGI swung into action on Friday — employees examined all sockets and repaired the broken ones. According to sources,the electrical wires in the Nehru Hospital have not been changed since its construction. Experts state the maximum age of electrical wires is 25 years and the wiring of the hospital went obsolete 20 years ago.
