Park Plaza burglary: Charges framed against man who was held in Mumbai

A lower court on Thursday framed charges of house trespass,theft and receiving stolen property against Ramesh Bhanaji Chhag (58),who was arrested by the Chandigarh Police crime branch for allegedly burgling the room of an NRI couple from Canada in Hotel Park Plaza,Sector 17,on February 11.

A lower court on Thursday framed charges of house trespass,theft and receiving stolen property against Ramesh Bhanaji Chhag (58),who was arrested by the Chandigarh Police crime branch for allegedly burgling the room of an NRI couple from Canada in Hotel Park Plaza,Sector 17,on February 11.

Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Rajnish Kumar Sharma charged Ramesh under Section 454 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking),380 (theft) and 411(receiving stolen property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to a report submitted by the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL),there were no technical snags in the functioning of the CCTV camera of the hotel.

The switches of the CCTV system were functional and not tampered with. The report read that the entire crime was preplanned and the there was no technical snag.

Ramesh and his accomplice Jayesh R Sejpal had allegedly burgled the room of an NRI couple Dr Mohit Singla and Dr Ashima Singla on February 11. When the burglary took place,the CCTV footage of that particular floor for the time when the duo were executing their plan was blank.

While Ramesh was arrested by the UT Police from Mumbai,Jayesh is still at large. The duo had reportedly committed a similar burglary at Hotel Raddison,Jalandhar,just weeks before the Park Plaza incident.
