Buoyed by a fine performance by their judokas,hosts Panjab University claimed the overall title in the All India Inter-University Judo Championship which concluded at Panjab University Gymnasium Hall on Monday. The hosts lifted the winning trophy with a total of 16.5 points including four gold medals. The second spot was bagged by Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar with nine points while ManipurUniversity grabbed the third spot with five points. The fourth spot was claimed by Delhi University. On the concluding day,Stephnie of Delhi University won the titlein the -57 Kg category while T Sanamacha Devi of Manipur University grabbed the second spot. The third spot was shared by Sunaina of Guru Nanak Dev University,Amritsar and Panjab University,Chandigarh. In the -63 Kg category,Th. Gangarani Devi of Manipur University emerged as the winner with a win over Suman of Panjab University,Chandigarh in the final. The third spot was shared by Shipra Srivastav of Laxmi Bai National University of Physical Education,Gwalior and Minakshi ofDelhi University. Earlier in the championship,London Olympian Garima Chaudhary handed her team Panjab University a fourth gold medal with a win over Sarah Majid of Mumbai University in the U-70 Kg final . Ramandeep of Ch. Devi Lal University,Sirsa and Ranjeeta of Guru Nanak Dev University claimed the bronze medal.
In the U-48 Kg category,Monika Malab of Kota University claimed the gold medal. On he opening day of the championship,Garima Chaudhary claimed the title in the open categorywith a win over Rangeeta of Guru Nanak Dev University. Stephnie of Delhi University and Jyoti of MD University,Rohtak claimed the bronze medals each. In the U-44 Kg category,Anjali of Panjab University emerged as the champion with a win over Pallavi of Guru Nanak Dev University,Delhi in the final. The bronze medal was claimed by Krishna of Ch. Devi Lal University,Sirsa and Gaganpreet of Delhi University. In the U-78 Kg category,Manisha Sharma of Panjab University emerged as the champion with a win over Rekha of Punjabi University,Patiala in the final.
