As expected,MP Pandove and Inderjit Singh Bindra were re-elected unanimously as secretary and president of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for the next term,in the 64th Annual General Body Meeting of PCA held at the PCA Stadium,Mohali,on Sunday. Pandove also is the chairman of the National Cricket Academy and also heads the BCCI Special Academies,while Bindra has been promoting the sport throughout the world. Other office bearers appointed during the AGM were: Viswajeet Khanna,treasurer,GS Walia,Justice SS Sodhi (Retd.) and SS Saini as joint secretaries,DP Reddy and BK Mehta as vice-presidents. Meanwhile,executive members include: Mohit Khanna,Surjit Rai,Vinod Chitkara,R.P.Pandove,Mohinder Singh,Dr. AGS. Bawa,Krishan Lal Saraf,Sandeep Budhiraja,Gurkirat Kirpal Singh,OD Sharma,Naunihal Singh,Ajay Tyagi,Sudhir Mital,RP Singla,Amar Bindra,Rajiv Mittal and Rupinder Singh Sachdeva.
The new elected executive members will meet on August 3 at the PCA Cricket Stadium,Mohali,to appoint the various sub-committees to look after senior and junior cricket activities for the upcoming season,and also to make coaching training programmes. The members wished and hoped that swashbuckling cricketer Yuvraj Singh would make an early comeback into the Indian team. The House also condoled the death of Harold Ghosh,Lt. Col. Ajit Singh Judge and Sat Pal Juneja who were members of the PCA.
Pandove recorded that three Under-19 players,like Manan Vohra,Kamal Passi and Sandeep Sharma,have been selected for Under-19 World Cup while Harmanpreet Kaur,who is the Vice-Captain of Indian women’s team,has now been shortlisted for Women Twenty-20 World Cup to be played in Sri Lanka. He also informed the members that Punjab cricketer Mandeep Singh was named as the rising young star of IPL-5.
Also the Punjab Under-22 team,which won the Col. C.K. Nayudu Trophy,were honoured with cash prize of Rs.20 lakh. Amritsar District won the best district award of Rs.five lakh while Patiala district got the second best district award of Rs. 2.5 lakh.
The PCA also honoured four senior life members,E r. R.S. Dhiman,Prof. B.M. Rawlley ,Narinder Sayal and Prof. YL Chopra. Later,Pandove informed the members about the final procurement of 43 acres of land in Mullanpur Development Plan Area approved for sports and leisure activities. The stadium and other facilities being created have been proposed to be developed in the Mega Projects Scheme of the State Government for which the association has submitted the papers.
