Panchkula realtor death: Two suspects agree to undergo narco analysis test

In a significant development, the two suspects in the mysterious death of Panchkula realtor Suresh Kumar have given their consent before a Mohali Court to undergo a narco analysis test.

In a significant development, the two suspects in the mysterious death of Panchkula realtor Suresh Kumar have given their consent before a Mohali Court to undergo a narco analysis test. Names of the two suspects had surfaced during a re-investigation ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The counsel for the two gave consent to undergo the narco test,as demanded by Mohali Police, before a Mohali court last week. The two are alleged girlfriend of the deceased and her husband (names withheld). Recording their consent, the Mohali court adjourned the case for a week to pass final orders in this regard.

This, however, has not impressed the kin of the deceased who have decided to stage protest against Mohali police on Monday. “The Mohali police is only trying to complicate the case than solving it. It has been over three years since Suresh Kumar was murdered but the police have failed to make even a single arrest. We have no faith in the Mohali police; we want the probe to be handed over to CBI at the earliest,” said Rakesh, brother of the deceased.

However, assuring that the police were doing “their best”,a senior police officer told Chandigarh Newsline: “We are not trying to shield anyone. The fact that we have moved the court seeking a narco analysis test of two suspects demonstrates our genuine efforts.”

A fortnight back, the DNA report, which was awaited for the past two years, was received by the Mohali police. Despite the fact that the parents had testified that the body recovered from the vehicle was of their son,the Mohali police had taken DNA samples and sent them to Gandhinagar. In the absence of the report, the Mohali Police had been seeking time from the High Court in response to a petition demanding a CBI probe into the case.

It was on November 27,2010 that the body of Suresh Kumar,28,was recovered from his burnt car in Siswan area near Baddi,Himachal Pradesh. Until now,the Mohali police has failed to solve the case. Family of Kumar,a realtor, had been alleging from day one that he was murdered and that it was not a case of suicide.

Unsatisfied with the “quality” of investigation done by the Mohali police into the alleged murder, the High Court had directed the Mohali police to conduct a “review of the investigation” in July 2012.

In its latest status report given last month, the Mohali police had hinted at suicide but submitted that they were yet to reach a logical conclusion. The status report stated that a couple of days before his “mysterious” death,Kumar had informed his sister by phone that he “would die” as he would not be able to marry his beloved. Also,he was under stress as his beloved was about to get married to someone else.

In July last, the High Court had taken strong note of the “snail’s pace” at which the investigation was moving and that despite a “delay of one and half years not even one accused was arrested”. No arrest has been made so far.
