Police have busted an inter-state vehicle theft gang and arrested three persons from various areas in Panchkula. The arrests were made by the officers of CIA-1, Panchkula. The accused were identified as Sonu, a native of Padebaba village in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, who lived as a tenant
in Dhakoli, Punjab; Himanshu, a resident of Dhakoli and Saurabh, a resident of Saharanpur, UP. All the three accused were arrested between August 4 and August 11.
The police have recovered 12 vehicles, including four Bullets, five Pulsar bikes (220 cc), two Splendor and one Activa scooty. Out of the recovered cars, six were stolen from Panchkula and six from Punjab.
According to the police, the gang was active during the night hours and would target those houses where the vehicles would be parked outside in the open. They would break the locks and steal the vehicles.
There are several cases registered against the accused in various places in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where they would sell off the stolen vehicles.
“They used to change the registration number of the vehicles and dupe people by giving false assurance of giving the registration papers later,” said an officer.
The accused were produced in a local court and remanded in police custody.
