For the past five months,Panchkula Consumer Forum has been short-staffed. This despite authorities repeated claims of filling up vacancies shortly. The Panchkula consumer court bench comprised president Ashok Kumar Jain, and two members Sarita Jain and S P Singh. However,Sarita Jain retired in September last year and since then one post has been lying vacant. The forum is being presided by the president and another member. The absence of the second member in the Forum has,as per Panchkula residents, affected its functioning to some extent.
Though the consumer court in Panchkula has settled over 350 cases last year, but at the same time, the pendency figures of over hundred cases show that work has got affected to some extent, said a resident. And as per the Act,consumer courts have to decide complaints within 90 days,so there needs to be a full bench to settle the cases.
President of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Panchkula,Ashok Kumar Jain denied that the absence of the another member has hampered its functioning. Even though we dont have the second member,we have been settling the cases and the work has not got affected in the court, he said.
A senior official in Haryana governments Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission said that the vacant post of the Panchkula Consumer Forum will be very shortly.
We had invited applications from senior advocates, serving or retired district or additional district judges for filling the posts in states consumer courts which also includes Panchkula, said the senior officer.
