VJ Mathira will make her debut in India with an item number in Punjabi film Young Malang.

VJ Mathira will make her debut in India with an item number in Punjabi film Young Malang.

After Pakistani actor Veena Malik, former VJ and chat show host Mathira is all set to appear in a Punjabi film. Her debut film Young Malang features Yuvraj Hans and Anjana Sukhani in lead roles. Mathira has performed a dance number in the “youth-oriented,romantic comedy”,which is scheduled to release in August this year.

In Chandigarh on Thursday,Mathira shared her experience of working in a cross-border film. “It is for the first time that I am doing an item song and that, too, for an Indian film. Punjab is a beautiful place and I had a wonderful time working here,” said the former VJ,who had to work on lip-sync to get it right on screen.

Much like her contemporaries,Mathira is not new to controversies back home. She has faced ire for “revealing too much” and stripping for the cover of a fashion and nutrition magazine in Pakistan. “Although I have been accused of crossing the limits many times,I don’t think I have gone to such an extent. I know that even if I make a small move,it will become a controversy in Pakistan. I care only about the cause that I work for rather than anything else,” she said.

Unaffected by accusations, she is looking forward to her debut in India. “There are a lot of people who hate me but I love my haters. I firmly believe that people who hate you care much more about you rather than those who love you,” said Mathira.

When asked about the emerging trend of item songs in Punjabi films, the producer of Young Malang Rahulinder Singh Sidhu said,“Although item songs aren’t a necessity, they are a good way to lighten up the audience and also enhance the music bouquet of the film.”

Young Malang has been shot in a number of places in and around Punjab and the cast will now head to Italy for a 10-day shooting schedule. The music director of the film is Gurmeet Singh.
