Paid Rs 1.8 cr to Yadav in 4 cases,co-accused told CBI

CBI didnt prosecute due to lack of independent corroboration

Nearly Rs 2 crore was paid to Justice (retd) Nirmal Yadav for passing favourable judgements in four cases. Of these four,Yadav decided three cases and allegedly influenced the judge of a lower court in the fourth case.

This was revealed by Ravinder Singh to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during his interrogation in the cash at judges door scam. The revelations are part of the over 160 page investigation report prepared by CBI.

Special CBI public prosecutor Anupam Gupta on Wednesday read out in court these revelations made by Delhi businessman Ravinder Singh,a close friend of Yadav and a co-accused in the case. This report was sent by the CBI to the then Chief Justice of India (CJI) S H Kapadia in June 2010.

It may be clarified that Rs. 1.8 crore was allegedly paid to Yadav in addition to Rs 15 lakh for deciding a dispute pertaining to a Panchkula plot in favour of a client of lawyer Sanjiv Bansal,another co-accused in the scam. It is this case (Panchkula plot dispute) for which Yadav has been chargesheeted by the CBI.

After Ravinder Singhs revelations,the CBI investigated into each and every case. However,in the absence of independent corroboration,the CBI chose not to prosecute Yadav in these four cases.

Referring to the judgement given by Yadav in the Panchkula plot dispute,Gupta said evidence collected by CBI makes it irrefutable that Rs 15 lakh was a consideration other than legal remuneration for Justice Nirmal Yadav. The said judgment was certainly influenced by Ravinder Singh,Gupta added.

In his interrogation,Ravinder Singh had admitted that he acted as middleman between Sanjiv Bansal and Justice Yadav and that he (Singh) influenced Justice Yadav in various matters on behalf of Sanjiv Bansal.
