When it was floated, people had said,What an idea sirji! But the state government discontinued radio classrooms last month, which had become quite popular among students and teachers. Started on August 7,2008,under the strict guidelines of the Education department, the programme was aimed at teaching thousands of students through one radio set.
As per the directions, every primary school of the state had purchased radio sets. The programme, christened Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Radio Classroom, also served as a remedy to the acute shortage of teachers.
The Education department,in collaboration with the All India Radio, had started broadcasting lessons every day from 12:05 pm to 12:35 pm except during examinations and holidays. Dr Rashmi Khurana of AIR,programme executive for this project, said,We received an extremely good response for the project, but the contract was only for six months. We are trying to renew it.
District Education Officer (Primary) Joginder Das said the programme would be re-started soon after getting feedback,as students in the remotest of areas were being benefitted.
