April is a busy month for Punjabi cinema. While RSG Studio’s much talked-about debut project Young Malang will finally hit the floors,April 19 will see the release of Bikkar Bai Senti Mental. Featuring Preeti Jhangiani and singer-actor Jassi Jasraj,Bikkar Bai,directed by Gautam Nagrath,is the story of a young man whose life takes unexpected turns in pursuit of love and some very tough decisions that come with it. The cast also includes Rana Ranbir,Shahbaz Khan,Sardar Sohi,Kanwalpreet and Bobby Sandhu. “My character,Jeeti,is that of a strong woman who supports her daring husband. Every woman will relate to the character,” says Jhangiani. “Jeeti undergoes an emotional turmoil when she has to choose between her love for her husband and that for her child. How she balances this act is the film’s story,” adds Jhangiani. Meanwhile,the team of Young Malang came calling on Tuesday. The maiden venture of Rahulinder Singh Sidhu from RSG Studios,the film marks the entry of Bollywood actor Anjana Sukhani to Punjabi cinema,and also features Yuvraj Hans,Neetu Singh,Anita Kailey,Balli Riar and Vinaypal Buttar. Directed by Rajdeep Singh,Young Malang is a light-hearted college romance. “We will shoot at locations around Chandigarh,in Himachal Pradesh and even in Italy,” says Sidhu. The story is written by Manshender Singh,who has also written the film’s screenplay along with Rajdeep. Cinematography is by Anshul Choubey. Music directors include Gurmeet Singh,Gurmoh and Vikram Singh aka Vicky. The film is set to release in August this year.

Campus Call

Channel V’s campus show The Buddy Project is back in its second season. This time,the setting changes from the school campus of Royal Academy to the college grounds of Imperial College of Communication,marking the show’s progression from school rivalry to college hostility,school crushes to college romance,and classroom wars to real-world competitions. The buddies will be there,say actors Palak Jain and Kunal Jai Singh,who were in town to talk about the show’s second innings. “More drama,new faces and stories,new connections and rivalries will form the base of the second season,” said the duo.
