One killed,four injured after blast in fridge compressor

Ambala: One person was killed and four injured following a blast in a fridge compressor at a house in Asa Sigh Garden,Ambala City,on Sunday night. All five members of Brij Mohan’s (55) family,who were in the room when the incident took place,were seriously injured and rushed to the Civil Hospital. Four of them,namely Brij Mohan,his wife Usha,daughter Surbhi and son Deepak were referred to PGI Chandigarh in a critical condition.

Though Deepak succumbed to his injuries,the other three are still being treated at the hospital. The fifth victim,Vikram,is being treated at Civil Hospital.

According to police,the compressor went off accidentally. Investigations in the matter is in progress.

Five injured in accident on Diwali night


Chandigarh: Five persons were seriously injured after a motorcycle rammed into a Jeep near the Sector 51-52 junction on Sunday night. The victims were rushed to the Government Hospital in Sector 32 where medical reports confirmed the motorcycle driver was under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

459 students get GHES scholarship

Chandigarh: As many as 459 students studying in Technical,Medical and other professional and educational courses in various universities have been awarded scholarship on merit-cum-means basis by the Guru Harkrishan Educational Society (GHES). The total amount of scholarships,which comes to Rs 18.01 lakh for the academic year 2013-14,will be disbursed to students in two installments through the principals of the respective institutes. Last year,the society disbursed Rs 16.15 lakh to 471 students.
