One person was killed and four others were injured, two of them seriously,in a powerful blast that occurred in an illegal cracker factory here on Sunday. The factory was being run from a house belonging to a woman,Guchhi,in a Chheherta locality on the outskirts of the city.
The deceased was Guchhis brother,Mahna. Her another brother,Raja, and sister,Gori, sustained over 70 per cent burns and are fighting for life at the local civil hospital, said the police.
The entire upper storey of the house where crackers were being assembled was reduced to ashes as a result of the blast and the tenants living on the ground floor were injured as the debris fell on them. Guchhi was not at home at the time of the incident, and so were about ten other labourers who had just left for lunch.
Mahna,35,died on the spot, while the condition Gori and Raja is stated to be critical. Guchhi is still missing and the Chheherta police have started investigations after registering a case.
According to police sources,Guchhi used to run an illegal cracker factory earlier at Anngarh but had shifted base to Chheherta due to police pressure.
