On tantrik’s advice,woman tries to kill 8-yr-old

An 8-year-old boy had a miraculous escape after being dumped in a well by a woman on Saturday night.

An 8-year-old boy had a miraculous escape after being dumped in a well by a woman on Saturday night. Charanjit Kaur Channi (35),a resident of Patti, allegedly attempted to kill the boy after listening to a tantrik, who had reportedly told her that she would find her missing daughter only if she performed a child sacrifice.

Tarn Taran police on Sunday arrested Channi, tantrik Parmanand Swami and Channi’s neighbour Nirvail Singh, who allegedly took the woman to the tantrik and then urged her to abduct and sacrifice 8-year-old Prince. A case of abduction and attempt to murder has been registered against the trio.

According to the police,Channi claimed that her 11-year-old daughter,Soni, had been taken away by a nihang a couple of days back and has been missing since. She added that her neighbour Nirvail Singh took her to tantrik Parmanand Swami who advised her to sacrifice a child to get her daughter back.

Patti SHO Harit Kumar said Channi abducted Prince on Saturday night when he was playing outside his house. “She then repeatedly hit him with a brick on the head and then dumped him in a more than 30-feet deep well that had no water. Presuming him to be dead, she came back to her house,” the SHO said.

“In the morning, she went to see whether Prince was dead. She heard him crying in the welland started throwing stones in order to kill him,” Kumar said, adding that a person listened to the child’s cries and saw Channi hurling the stones.

“Police was informed and when the child was taken out,he instantly blamed Channi for beating him up and throwing him in the well,” the SHO said. Police teams have now been sent to trace Channi’s daughter as police suspect that the nihang may have taken her to a fair in Chabbal.
