In a move that will make many students smile,Panjab University (PU) vice-chancellor (V-C) Professor Arun Kumar Grover has granted approval to the proposal of giving one last chance to students who wish to give their respective exams under the annual system again,in order to improve scores and clear their compartments.
The issue was raised in the Senate meeting held on Sunday when a Senate member,Munish Verma, pointed out that a number of students, under the annual system, had to face problems after the university adopted the semester system in 2011-12.
Highlighting that many such students could not even apply for the UGC-NET exam because of their low marks,he had requested that students be given one last chance to give their exams. The suggestion made during the zero-hour was accepted in principle by the Senate house, after it was supported by other members.
PU Controller of Exams,Parvinder Singh,said,V-C has given his approval to the proposal. A committee has already been constituted to classify students who will be allowed to take these exams. The meeting of the committee will be held on Thursday and we will issue advertisements to invite applications.
Our office has already received a number of applications from students after the proposal was mooted in the Senate. The number of such students is huge,so we need to plan everything before issuing advertisements. The exam will most likely be held in April next year, Singh added.
Welcoming the development,Munish Verma said,As many as 1,000 students will be benefited by this decision.
