City residents will be spared the ordeal of running from pillar to post for getting birth and death certificates as the UT Administration has launched online registration of both the certificates.

The facility was launched by the UT Adviser on Tuesday with an aim to facilitate and streamline the citizen service delivery system.

Bhupesh Chaudhary, assistant commissioner, municipal corporation, stated that they had authorised the Post- Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER); Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32; Civil Hospital, Sector 22; Government Multi-specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16; and Civil Hospital, Manimajra, for issuing the certificates. These hospitals have been selected as they account for 80 per cent of the birth and death events.

These individual institutions will be responsible for issuing all the new birth and death certificates, addition of baby name and the corrections in the certificates, if any. Staff at each hospital has been deputed for registration of birth and death on website http://crsorgi.gov.in.

Chaudhary said: “This initiative will reduce the rush in the office of Birth and Death Registrar, Sector 17, and at the same time will make it convenient for the citizens.”

He maintained that the residents could take printouts of the certificates from their homes without having to visit the office of birth and death registrar.

Another feature of the online system is that all the certificates have a unique quick response (QR) code printed on them through which the authenticity of each certificate can easily be validated. This will also help in putting a check on incidents of forgery or counterfeit certificates.
