Dismissing rumors about him returning to the Akali Dal or joining hands with Congress,People’s Party of Punjab leader Manpreet Singh Badal on Thursday termed the rumours baseless.

“It actually depicts the abysmal levels to which the polity has sunk. Some people have told me that you should join Akali Dal,others have suggested I should join Congress against the Akalis. They conveniently forget that if I had to join these two political parties,I would not have started the People’s Party of Punjab,” Manpreet said.

Stating that he had a comfortable life as a minister in the Akali Dal,Manpreet added: “I had to make a pseudo rebel,I would have conveniently joined some rival organisation, but Punjab’s bane has been convenient and turncoat politics and PPP is committed to change that.”

He said the party will contest the upcoming municipal corporation elections. “By May 31,PPP will have a fully established party structure. To those who say that PPP has been a failure,I just say that find me one single instance where a party launched barely 11 months before elections, garnered more than 5 per cent vote share without any financial clout,” said Manpreet.

Claiming that one of the main inadequacies being faced by PPP was lack of formal organisational structure,Manpreet said: “Due to paucity of time,we could not establish a grassroot organisational system. In this direction, the party has already made 22 new district presidents. A meeting with these presidents elected last week was held today at PPP’s office in Chandigarh. Among others,it was attended by 11 presidents of the party’s youth,farmers,women,medical,ex-servicemen,NRIs,Pravasi Mazdoor and retired officers wings.”
