Nominations filed for sarpanches and panches on last day

Panchayat elections on December 15 for electing 12 sarpanches and 132 panches.

Many candidates filed nominations for the posts of sarpanches and panches for the elections to the 12 gram panchayats scheduled for December 15 on the last day of filing nominations on Wednesday.

Polling would be held for electing 12 sarpanches and 132 panches.

Of the 12 posts of sarpanches,three are reserved for women and one each for scheduled caste and scheduled caste woman. In Kishangarh,Kaimbwala and Behlana,the post of the sarpanch is reserved for a women candidates. At Raipur Kalan and Makhanmajra that has one panchayat,the sarpanch would be from the scheduled caste category. While at Khuda Jassu,the post is reserved for schedule caste woman.

While there is one post of sarpanch in every village,the number of panches varies. The total number of candidates in fray would be clear once the list is finalised after scrutiny.

The covering candidates would then be able to withdraw their nominations. Highest number of nominations have been received for village Khuda Alisher.

As many as 12 people filed nomination for the post of sarpanch. While the highest number of nominations for the post of sarpanches have been filed at Daria where 67 people have filed nominations for 13 posts.

Among the other villages,at Khuda Lahora,Khuda Jassu and Behlana,four people each have filed nominations for the post of sarpanch. At Dhanas,eight people have filed nominations,while the number is 11 at Daria. The list of candidates would be finalised on December 7.

A proposal had been initiated by the Administration to transfer these villages to the Municipal Corporation. This would have led to an end to the panchayats in the city. However,the process has been put on hold for now and elections are being conducted.


The issue of regularising the construction outside the lal dora is one of the main issue in the villages.
