The Chandigarh Administration has refused to allot land to cattle owners for creating cow dung pits in Dhanas. During the resumed hearing of a petition which is hanging fire since 2001,the Administration today made it clear that land cannot be allotted for a minority of around 90 cattle owners as Dhanas has become a residential area.

Counsel for Chandigarh Administration added that parks have been made by the Administration in Dhanas and the Municipal Corporation has been asked to take all possible measures for cleanliness of Dhanas.

A petition, filed by cattle owners was admitted in the High Court in 2001. The petitioners had sought directions to Administration for allowing them to come up with cow dung pits. However, the Administration today stated that the same is not feasible owing to value of land in Chandigarh and that Dhanas has become a residential area.

With regard to steps taken for cleanliness of Dhanas, the counsel added that the Corporation has been asked to take all possible steps for cleanliness of Dhanas.
