Nehru remembered at Sec 22 function

A Samman Samaroh was held to honour senior citizens who had listened to the speech and been part of the city’s creation.

NGO Youth Innovative Society organised a function at Nehru Park in Sector 22 on Thursday to mark the birth anniversary of the country’s first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Mayor Subhash Chawla,the chief guest on the occasion,recalled Nehru’s great contribution in building modern India,while area councillor Pardeep Chhabra paid floral tributes to Nehru,who had addressed a gathering at this park.

A Samman Samaroh was held to honour senior citizens who had listened to the speech and been part of the city’s creation.

A cultural programme was presented by Samarth,a school for mentally challenged children,while a painting competition and cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark Nehru’s birth anniversary.

Addressing the gathering,Sahil Makkar,who is office bearer of the Society said Nehru and his thoughts still remained contemporary and were invaluable to those who believed in value-based politics.
