A stellar display by their forwards- Navjot (28 pts) and Harsh (20 pts)- propelled hosts New Public School,Sector 18,to an easy 63-40 win over Vivek High School as the hosts claimed the boys’ title on the final day of the Col. Balraj Singh Sub-Junior State Basketball Championship played at New Public School courts in Sector 18 on Friday. The girls’ title was bagged by St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School who defeated Strawberry World School 19-6 in the final.

Earlier,in the boys’ final,it was an easy outing for the hosts New Public School,Sector 18. Buoyed by the performance of their players,the team managed some early points that firmly put them in the driver’s seat. And,as expected,it was NPS-18 who took the lead in the first two quarters.

At half-time,the hosts were leading 41-16. In the last two quarters,the Vivek High School cagers attempted to make a comeback into the match but their effort went in vain as the team suffered a 40-63 loss. For the winning team,Navjot was the star of the day as he netted 28 points. He was ably assisted by Harsh who contributed 20 points. For the losing team,Jaskaran garnered 16 points while Jasjit netted 12 points.

In the girls’ category,St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School emerged as the winners by registering a facile 19-6 win against Strawberry World School. In what was a low-scoring match,St Xavier’s School cagers made some smart moves on the court. At half-time,St Xavier’s School were leading 8-2.

For the winning team,Simran scored nine points. For the losing team,Mannat Kang netted three points.
