Amrinder Warring also mentioned the farmers' protest at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana and the alleged police atrocities on the protesters.

Questioning the BJP-led Centre over national security, Ludhiana MP and Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday raised the murder of singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moosewala in Lok Sabha. He also questioned the government over alleged police atrocities on farmers who took part in the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march.

In his speech, Warring said gangster Lawrence Bishnoi not only gave an interview from jail claiming responsibility for Moosewala’s murder, but also issued a threat to the singer’s father, stating that he would suffer the same fate. However, no action was taken, he alleged.

Moosewala, who had unsuccessfully contested the Punjab Assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Mansa, was shot dead on May 29, 2022. As many as 31 accused have been named in the murder case, including gangsters Bishnoi and Goldy Brar, and 25 have been arrested so far.

Sidhu Moosewala was our friend. He was a singer whose songs were popular from Tamil Nadu to Kerala, Maharashtra to New York. Even now, his songs are played at Times Square, New York, every other day. The entire world relished his music. But do you know what happened with him? This government (Centre) boasts and makes tall claims regarding the country’s foolproof national security, but a gangster named Lawrence Bishnoi, sitting inside the jail, openly gave an interview that he killed Moosewala. Not just this, he even threatened Moosewala’s father that he, too, has to die the same way. Is this our national security?” questioned Warring.

“He (Moosewala) was just 28… and he was brutally killed after bullets were rained on him. When will his family get justice? In our Punjab, a young lad is made to wear sehra (forehead garland crown) only when he gets married but Moosewala’s parents had to put that sehra on his body before bidding him final goodbye.. Where is our home minister now?” asked Warring.

Warring also said that thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana were injured, and many died after they were stopped from entering Delhi at the Shambhu border between Punjab and Haryana and the BJP-led government in Haryana inflicted atrocities on them.

In February, farmers from Punjab and Haryana travelled to Delhi to demand a law guaranteeing minimum support prices for agricultural produce. Their agitation was met with heavy barricading, police action, tear gas shelling, and pellet gun firing. At one of the borders that became a protest site, clashes resulted in the death of a young farmer.
