The marriage of Geeta,a resident of Nari Niketan was solemnised at the Senior Citizens Home,Sector 43 on Wednesday. The ceremony was organised by the UT Social Welfare Department.

The Department of Social Welfare had invited applications through a matrimonial advertisement. The department constituted a committee which interviewed the prospective grooms. Following this,Rajesh Kumar Sharma,resident of Mubarakpur,Derabassi was selected. After medical examination and character verification by the police,the date of marriage was fixed.

The Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Social Welfare,Director,Social Welfare as well as staff members of the department participated in the wedding ceremony.

The department has arranged marriages earlier as well. Usha and Vanita,whose marriages were solemnised in the previous years also attended the wedding with their families.

The expenditure on the marriage of Geeta was met by contribution made by the staff members of the Social Welfare Department,Scheduled Castes,Backward Classes and Minorities Financial and Development Corporation,Child and Women Development Corporation along with other citizens and NGOs.
