Jamait-e-Ulma Hind today expressed concern over the economic conditions of Muslims in the region,and urged the government to take necessary steps to ensure that their interests were protected.
Addressing media persons,Jamait president Hazrat Maulana Arshad Madni said there were a number of concerns of the Muslim community of Punjab,Haryana,Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh,which were largely being ignored by the respective governments. Madni further said while the city had a large of gurdwaras,temples and churches,the number of mosques were inadequate for the sizeable Muslim population in the Tricity. He demanded the government to provide land to build more mosques.
Madni claimed that a large number of Wakf properties had been encroached upon all over the region. The government has failed in its duty to return the properties to the Wakf. Encroachments made on places related to Muslim community should be immediately vacated, Madni said. The Jamait President also demanded that the different Wakf Boards of Punjab,Haryana,Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh should be embodied into one Wakf to better deal with the problems of the Muslim community in the region.
